ITMR Legal Territory Map
Find the right practice area for digital projects
Classify your matter by business model, situation and risk signals. The map condenses IT law, data protection, AI, the Data Act, DSA, cybersecurity, e-commerce, media law, IP, advertising and litigation into a prioritised ITMR review route. This helps you find the right practice area for digital projects, disputes and compliance questions faster. The result is a suitable practice area as the starting point for your inquiry.
The checker helps translate vague inquiries into a structured mandate route: primary area, secondary areas, risk level, priority, typical documents and next steps. This is particularly helpful in mixed situations such as SaaS plus data protection, AI plus copyright, platform plus DSA or a cease-and-desist letter plus reputational risk. An overview of our focus areas is provided in the sections IT Law & Digitalisation and Media & Communications Law.

What this check does
From a vague inquiry to a reviewable mandate route
The Legal Territory Map is intended for situations in which it is not yet clear whether data protection law, IT contract law, AI law, platform law, cybersecurity, e-commerce, media law, trademark law, copyright, competition law or litigation is primarily affected. It takes into account typical compliance drivers from the ITMR Digital Legal Audit, such as GDPR/TDDDG, AI Act, Data Act, DSA, NIS2/BSIG, CRA, BFSG, GPSR, consumer law, UWG, content/IP chains of title and litigation readiness.
What is the Legal Territory Map for?
It serves to initially structure digital, media law, IP-related and compliance-relevant matters. The output does not replace a legal review of the individual case, but it makes preparing an inquiry easier.
Which practice areas does the map cover?
It covers IT law, data protection/ePrivacy, AI law, data law, platform regulation, cybersecurity, e-commerce, product compliance, accessibility, advertising/competition, trademarks/IP/content, media/reputation and litigation.
Why are deadlines and regulatory drivers also queried?
Many digital business models are driven by deadlines or events, such as data breaches, cease-and-desist letters, DSA notices, NIS2/CRA incidents, BFSG implementation, Data Act data access, the order button, the cancellation button or the green claims changeover.
Does the map replace legal advice?
No. The map provides a preliminary orientation based on your answers. Whether obligations exist, which deadlines are running and which strategy makes sense must be reviewed on the basis of the specific documents.
